The types of personal data we collect

We collect data that you provide to us voluntarily, such as your name, address, phone number and e-mail address, e.g. to register with our knitting pattern shop, to subscribe to our newsletter or to receive competition notifications. By registering, you agree to LANGYARNS processing your personal data.

 

How we use your personal data and what we use it for

LANGYARNS uses the data it collects in order to provide the services offered. Furthermore, we use this data to contact you; e.g. if a knitting pattern you purchased contains an error, we will send you the corrected version free of charge. This corrected version will be available to you in your customer account.

 

In addition, we use the data for the following purposes:

  • Communication, marketing and advertising in connection with LANGYARNS products & services
  • Legal requirements (e.g. charging & paying country-specific sales tax)
  • Business activities
  • Compliance with the statutory obligation to preserve all business records
  • Free correction of any purchased knitting patterns in your customer account

How we share your personal data

LANGYARNS does not share any personal data. We have never shared your data in the past, nor will we share your data with or sell it to third parties in the future.

 

Legal basis and legitimate interests concerning the use of personal data

Collecting the personal data we request from you is necessary to enable LANGYARNS to meet the legal requirements, e.g. the Europe-wide levy of country-specific sales tax on digital contents.

We may use your personal data for our legitimate interests in order to notify you of new products and services or further information on our business activities, e.g. via a newsletter.

Safety, storage and safekeeping  

LANGYARNS is committed to protect your personal data. While we take suitable preventive measures to protect your data, we would like to point out that no safety system is infallible.

LANGYARNS stores your personal data only on servers in Switzerland.

We use a number of appropriate technical and organizational measures and industry standards to protect your personal data and therefore prevent the loss, theft, misuse, unauthorized access to and disclosure of, modification or destruction thereof. We store the personal data you have provided to us on computer systems with limited access, which are located in controlled areas. Furthermore, your data will be protected by encryption technologies while being transmitted via the Internet. In addition, your password is stored using a one-way hash function, meaning that it cannot be recovered (or disclosed) by anyone, not even LANGYARNS (it can only be reset).

 

LANGYARNS will keep your personal data only for the period of time required to provide services to you, to comply with the applicable laws (including laws related to the safekeeping of documents) and for any other purposes necessary to allow us to conduct our business. All personal data we keep is subject to this data protection agreement and our internal safekeeping guidelines.

 

Protective measures concerning children

LANGYARNS does not knowingly ask for any personal data from children and does not send them any requests to provide such data. While visitors of any age can use our website, we do not intentionally collect personal data of anyone under the age of 16. If it is pointed out to us by a parent or guardian, or if it is made known to us by any other means that a child under the age of 16 has wrongly registered with this website using false information, we will immediately delete the respective account and the personal data linked to it.

 

Credit card details and other payment information

We do not store any payment or credit card information. Such data is only used to process payments during a purchase.

In specific cases LANGYARNS commissions third-party providers to provide services on its behalf. LANGYARNS would like to point out that if your data is deleted, we will no longer be able to provide certain services such as the free delivery of corrected knitting patterns or the re-download of already purchased knitting patterns.
